Microsoft FreeCell Game Numbers: Replay Classic Deals
A Microsoft game number is a deterministic seed. Entering the same number recreates the same 52-card layout across compatible FreeCell games.
How numbered deals work
The classic Microsoft shuffle uses the game number to generate and deal the cards across eight cascades.
- Same number, same opening
- Deals 1–32,000 are the original set
- Later Windows versions extended the set to one million
Open a Microsoft-numbered deal
On MirthTable, use Game number above the board. Supported numbers run from 1 to 1,000,000. For a repeatable rules exercise, enter 617.
- Type 617 in Game number, then select Play deal
- If asked, confirm replacing your unfinished attempt
- Use Share to copy or share a link containing the deal number; the link does not include your moves
Return to the original layout
A numbered link may restore your saved attempt on the same browser. To return to the opening, choose Restart and confirm if prompted. Restart replaces that attempt; use Undo or Redo instead if you only want to explore a few moves.
- The number identifies the opening, not your current position
- A friend without that saved attempt starts from the opening
- Other FreeCell apps may use different numbering systems; compatibility matters
Know the famous exceptions
Almost every Microsoft deal is solvable, but a small published set is known to be impossible under standard rules.

- A solvable opening can still be played into a dead end
