Drag cards into place, or tap a card and then its destination. Tap the same top card twice to send it home.

How to play

Build down. Send suits home.

01

Open the tableau

Build columns downward in alternating red and black suits. Only Kings can fill an empty column.

02

Use the stock

Draw one card at a time. When the stock is empty, turn the waste over and keep going. Easy deals are solver-verified and guaranteed solvable.

03

Complete four suits

Build each foundation upward from Ace to King. Its top card can return to the tableau when it follows the alternating-color rule.

Draw-one Klondike rules and strategy

How to play Klondike Solitaire on MirthTable

This table uses a relaxed draw-one Klondike ruleset with unlimited stock passes. Build the tableau downward in alternating colours, uncover hidden cards, and move every suit from Ace through King to the foundations.

Quick answer

Place a card on the opposite colour one rank higher, put only a King or King-led run into an empty column, and build each foundation upward by suit. A top foundation card may legally return to the tableau when it creates a valid alternating-colour move.

Core rules used here

01

Tableau

Build downward by rank while alternating red and black. A correctly ordered face-up run can move together.

02

Stock

Turn one card at a time. When the stock is empty, recycle the waste and continue; this version allows unlimited passes.

03

Foundations

Start each suit with its Ace, then build upward to King. Only the top foundation card can move back.

Common reasons a move fails

  • The colours matchA red Jack needs a black Queen; it cannot land on a red Queen.
  • The empty column has no KingOnly a King or a sequence beginning with a King can enter an empty tableau column.
  • The visible run is brokenEvery card in a moved group must already descend by one and alternate colour.

Useful strategy

  • Reveal hidden cards firstPrefer a move that turns over a face-down card over a harmless foundation move.
  • Keep both colours availableAvoid sending every low card home if it removes a needed landing place from the tableau.
  • Use foundation rollback deliberatelyBring a foundation top back only when it exposes a hidden card or releases a useful sequence.

Klondike questions players ask

Can a foundation card move back to the tableau?

Yes. The top foundation card can return if it lands on an opposite-colour card one rank higher.

How many cards are drawn from the stock?

This MirthTable ruleset draws one card at a time and permits unlimited stock passes.

What can fill an empty column?

Only a King or a valid descending, alternating-colour run led by a King.

Is every deal guaranteed solvable?

Easy deals are solver-verified. Standard deals are not guaranteed, and even a solvable opening can be blocked by a poor route.
