Klondike Mistakes That Block a Solvable Deal
A solvable opening can still become a dead end. Strong play preserves access to hidden cards and useful landing places instead of making every available move.
Moving low cards home too early
A foundation move can remove a needed tableau landing place. Send a low card home when it reveals a card or keeps both colours available.
- Prioritize hidden cards
- Keep useful ranks in both colours
- Use foundation rollback deliberately
Filling an empty column without a plan
Only a King or King-led run can enter an empty column. Save that scarce space for a route that exposes a deep hidden card.
- Know which King needs the space
- Prefer the column with more hidden cards
- Avoid moving a King only because you can
Ignoring stock order
In draw-one play, remember which waste cards appear on the next pass. A tableau move can change which stock card you need first.
- Review the waste before recycling
- Avoid burying a needed card
- Plan two stock cards ahead
