Number Match Strategy: Avoid Dead Ends and Score More
The first legal pair is not always the strongest move. Good play compares what each removal opens, what it blocks, and whether a deal will improve the next board boundary.
Compare the space each pair opens
Prefer removals that clear central blockers, finish a row, or expose several long paths. Re-scan after every move because one empty cell can unlock multiple pairs.

- Preserve useful edge pairs when possible
Use deals as a strategic reset
You may deal while matches remain. Do it when the copied reading order creates stronger row-end joins than the current board, not simply because one area looks awkward.
